Queering Parenthood Through the Lens of Occupational Science: A Qualitative Study
How it started
The Queer Parenting Guide was developed using insights from LGBTQ+ parents, gathered through qualitative research. These parents shared their experiences with systemic inequalities in healthcare, education, and community settings. This valuable data helped shape the guide to address unique challenges in areas like family planning, healthcare, and community support.

The guide includes sections on reliable fertility options, acquiring parental rights, building community support, and self-advocacy to help LGBTQ+ parents foster supportive networks and trust with healthcare providers. By focusing on real-world needs, the guide aims to be comprehensive and truly supportive for LGBTQ+ parents.

What is Occupational Science?

Occupational science studies the activities people engage in daily and their impact on health and well-being. It examines the relationship between occupation and factors like culture, context, and personal experiences to understand how people achieve fulfillment and address challenges through their activities.
